Ongoing Project
2018 –
A new body of work continuing our concern with the fragile ecologies of different kinds of ‘public’ spaces. As the wider impact of pub closures on the social landscape is emerging, we are adopting the triangular lens of Beer+People+Place to research and generate a number of new participatory performances of place and place-making for UK towns, villages and cities.
In 2018 we launched Public House in Leeds, commissioned by Compass Live Art. For Compass Festival we created 500 special edition pint glasses designed to spark conversations about the relationships between people, place and pubs. Distributed to every pub on the oldest street in Leeds, they invited audiences to debate and reflect on the enduring role of the original “third space”, the public house.
In 2019 we undertook a residency with Compass Live Art to develop the Public House project. We hosted an “Exchange” between brewers and pub activists in Leeds and Cornwall.
The Public House project will culminate in 2021 with Public House – The Yorkshire Square. Click here for details.
