Faceback is back! Live social networking game returns to Eden Project

“ We are moving in a direction where it can be quite radical to be old-fashioned, for example putting our focus on something like cooking and having a good conversation. That’s what has been so radical about Faceback. We are being encouraged to inhabit a digital landscape when we should be talking to each other face to face …”

Small Acts are delighted to announce the return of one of our most popular projects, Faceback. Invented by Katie Etheridge in 2008 (read the story of Faceback here) Faceback is a live art game that creates encounters between people who may not otherwise meet. The game creates a chain of random face-to-face meetings that unfolds over several hours or days. Whilst playfully generating face-to-face communication, Faceback also acts as a catalyst for conversation around issues of social connectedness and social isolation.

Join the Faceback community and meet real live people! Your Face is turned into a badge and worn by someone you haven’t met yet. Your mission is to get your Face back!

On Sunday 7th May you can become part of a huge offline temporary social network as the game gradually pervades the Eden Project generating 100’s of conversations and social encounters between visitors, and adding a unique layer of interaction, fun, and intrigue to your day.

Since 2008, Faceback has connected 10,000’s of people who would not otherwise meet, at events in the UK and internationally, including METAL’s Village Green Festival (Southend-on-Sea), WA Regional Arts Summit (Perth, Australia), LLAWN – Llandudno Arts Weekend, Great Estate (Cornwall), Funky Llama Festival (Plymouth Theatre Royal), National Rural Touring Forum: New Directions (Cornwall, Worcester) Fascinate at Falmouth Tall Ships Festival, ONE-ON-ONE and Burst Festival’s (Battersea Arts Centre), SPNM’s Sonic Illuminations (British Film Institute) and New Work Network at National Review of Live Art (Glasgow). Faceback has also engineered 1000’s of face-to-face meetings at conferences, freshers weeks and even a wedding!
