Re:Sounding is an evening of music and song bringing people together to celebrate and record the unique acoustics of the former Penryn Methodist Church, as the building begins its transition from a place of worship to an art space.

Mabe Ladies Choir will fill the chapel with sound in this special one-off event as part of the Church Records project by Crow Architecture and Small Acts. Sounds that have reverberated in this place for 130 years will be echoed through organ recitals, spoken word and the voices of the choir.

The evening will be recorded live by sound recordist and acoustician, Robin Tyndale-Biscoe to form part of a creative archive of the building, which includes mapping its ‘auditory plan’, a design feature of Methodist chapels that enabled every member of the congregation to see and hear the preacher.

Mabe Ladies Choir are a multi award winning choir, renowned for their mellow tone and characterful and sensitive singing. Formed in 1931, the choir have a longstanding relationship with Penryn Methodist Church, rehearsing in the attached School Room for many decades and regularly performing in the chapel.
